Life is good today

Living in this moment, life is good. Even when the world around me writhes with its daily grind, I can find peace in this moment, at least. It takes time to bring myself to peace sometimes - it takes time to re-focus on the moment sometimes.

It can even be difficult to get my brain to let go of control enough to allow myself to find comfort in the moment, but I CAN do it. I only have to try and keep at it.

Today, I am more than 5 years without nicotine. Today, my weight is reasonable. These days, I get 6 or more hours of sleep each day. Today I live fully, love fully, and breathe fully.

This week, still a non-smoker, and more: Weight stability

During my heart-sick times, I lost weight. But I lost weight because I was working on a better me.

I'm now hovering between 203 and 205.

Whuff!

Still humming away!

Today is a milestone for me.

Today, I have been a non-smoker for 4 1/2 years. On January 22, 2007 at 10:00 P.M., I had my last cigarette - it was foul and I didn't like it at all.

I've never looked back.

At the peak of the most difficult time of my life, I weighed 237 pounds and my heart had begun a spiral downward.

Today: I have the healthiest heart I've had since my teenage years.
Today: I am down to 211 lbs.

Here we are in March of 2010. No Smokes, weight is OK

It's been a long time. Just more than 3 years and 2 months...

It seems, in some ways, that I never smoked. Time's blurring capability has made it such that smoking is just an old nightmare, and old dream... a dream that can be forgotten.

Last night, after a night out taking my daughter to the movies (Alice in Wonderland! how cool!), we walked from the theater after about 10 P.M. Someone was smoking outside and I caught whiffs of freshly-lit cigarette smoke. It smelled sort of faintly good from a great distance - like the sound of an old friend's voice. Then, my non-smoking mind took over and thought, "Naw. You don't need that. It will taste nasty and feel bad. Besides, who wants to break open that old chestnut anyway?"

As I got closer to the smoker and her cigarette, the smell became noxious. My mind then reminded me that it really is nasty, and that the nicotine demon really isn't my friend: it is my MORTAL enemy.

Still not smoking.

Life is very much renewing. A bright Flower now grows in the Garden of my life. My children are finally on the mend. I am making progress towards a better life.

And I still don't want to smoke. Really. I might have one on my 125th birthday... yeah, that's it!
